Hu Xiaoyuan

Hu Xiaoyuan's art has always been questioning the inter-changing of contrasting concepts, such as love and hurt, life and death, existence and absence, useful and useless, etc. In "Wood / Rift" series, the lacquered surfaces of the wood boards are completed by applying paint with the board lying flat. On these large-scale silk surfaces, the artist spontaneously touches up the natural wood lines and then represses these lines on the wood surfaces by thoroughly covering them with free brushwork. In the end, between the wood and the silk, between reality and the imitation of reality, and between dominance and domestication, the artist and her work become each other's ruler and savior.
