In 2007, Liu Ye started to incorporate "bamboo" as the subject of his paintings. Bamboo as a motif inspired his expressive passion and allowed him to indulge himself in a continuous movement toward abstract painting while retaining a certain figurative form. Balancing between abstraction and figuration, he opened up the boundary into a space of possibilities. Liu Ye's abstraction is not an elimination of objects, nor a disintegration of the primitive impulse of life. Rather, it reflects his desire to "glance at the infinite" rushing into the figuration through the abstract structure.
